SEC Rule 605 Disclosure

SEC Rule 605 of Regulation NMS requires certain market centers, brokers and dealers to publish standardized monthly reports containing statistical information concerning the execution quality of covered orders in NMS stocks.

About SEC Rule 605

The Securities and Exchange Commission amended Rule 605 to expand the types of entities subject to the rule, including broker-dealers that introduce or carry 100,000 or more customer accounts through which transactions in NMS stocks are effected. The amendments also expanded the scope of covered orders, revised the required execution-quality statistics and established a new monthly summary report.

The compliance date for amended Rule 605 is August 1, 2026. Firstrade Securities, Inc. (“Firstrade”) began collecting the required order information on August 1, 2026.

Understanding Rule 605 Statistics

  • Rule 605 prescribes the information presented in these reports and the methods used to calculate the reported statistics.
  • The reports present historical execution-quality information and do not predict future execution quality.
  • The reports do not encompass every factor that may be relevant to the handling or routing of an order.
  • Results published by different firms may not be directly comparable because firms may differ in their business models, customer populations, order-flow characteristics and order-handling practices.
  • Rule 605 statistics provide a starting point for evaluating execution quality and should be considered together with other information when making a brokerage or order-routing decision.
